Make your makeup work for you

I’ve just died my hair really dark brown and look a bit washed out. What sort of make-up colours look best with my new hair (I have brown eyes, and pale skin with a hint of olive)?

Firstly Steph, let me salute you for mixing up your hair, and consequently, your makeup palette. Bold, brave and wonderful move indeed.

Now, firstly I would recommend adding a little bronzer to your cheeks to bring some life back into your complexion. This will make you look like you’ve just been on a lovely tropical holiday and give you that sparkling summer glow we all love to have. Too Faced do a wonderful one called Sun Bunny Caribbean Compact, $45, that’s what I use everyday. Some of the other girls like the Snow Bunny one, too, it looks like a Neapolitan ice cream, but isn’t as tasty. But it will give your cheeks a luminous flush.

In terms of eye shadows, I think when you have dark hair, it’s really important to make your eyes stand out, especially if they’re dark, too. So, here’s what I’d try: a violet coloured eyeliner and a very subtle violet eye shadow placed neatly above the lash line for a little hint of colour that’s going to make your brown eyes go pop. Pretty.

Just a little hint though, work both the bronzer and the eye shadow up slowly, rather than heaping them on in one nuts sweep. It’s all about subtly enhancing your features rather than having them scream, “OMG, I’ve got bright purple eye shadow and loads of bronzer on, look at me (or rather, moi)!!”
