Photo-Friendly Foundation
Mon, 27 August 2012 10:01AM
I wanted to ask about going-out foundations … I have been trying to find a long-lasting foundation without SPF so that I don’t get flashback in photos and look like an eagle!
Haha, I know what you mean about that photo-bombing eagle – it has appeared in many of my past pics! A photographer friend of mine says that the white-photo-face syndrome is indeed usually caused by the sunscreen in makeup – however, only sunscreen of the zinc oxide variety. But – to make it more confusing – this is not always the case, as one of her favourite bases for photos is Ultraceuticals Tinted Moisturiser SPF30+ ($60, Ultraceuticals), which contains zinc as well as other sunscreen actives. That’s why it’s worth playing around with your camera settings before you bin your base.
You asked about long-lasting, going-out foundations … so a tinted moisturiser probably doesn’t fit your bill. So try M.A.C Face & Body, $60, M.A.C. Another friend, a makeup artist, swears by this beauty’s ability to hold up well in front of a camera, as well as all night long.

Mineralogie foundations are 100% mineral and contain a special clear zinc oxide so you won’t get that powdery white look in photos.

Arbonne makes an amazing vegan, bontancially based makeup line that has Optilight Technology to diffuse and convey a ‘soft focus’ look for a flawless look that is also extremely light on your face.
I wish I would see more of it in the beauty world!
It is also all free from parabens, phalates, artificial chemicals and dyes and fragrances.

@k: I’ve tried the Arbonne gear, they are cake-y, oxidize easily, and generally terrible. My sister in law sells them and was offering it free to me, so I definitely had a reason to want to like them–but I don’t. BTW no offense, but to say “i can hook you up” and leave your email address is equivalent to blatant advertising, and IMO your comment should be taken down.

I think MUFE HD foundation is one of the top photo-friendly foundations. Make up artists recommend it all the time, so I recently bought it. I find it amazing, and very long-lasting. It’s buildable and smooth, the finish is natural, and I was told it has a time-release formula, so your face won’t look cake-y as the night progresses. Dior Airflash is also quite good for photos, and longlasting, but it makes me break out (sensitive skin).

Hi Person. Yes you’re right. This one slipped through the cracks. Thanks for the alert. Kat x

Love a tinted mousteriser – def going to try the ultraceuticals – love their products

the ultraceuticals tinted moisturiser is amazing!!! it’s got a matte finish so your face doesn’t get all shiny and weird especially in photos. I also bought the ultra hydrating lotion which Ive been using at night before bed and it’s actually brilliant! non greasy and really moisturises..

Hi Person, yes I would love to try MUFE but there are so few stockists, so I am hesitant to for out about $70 odd for a foundation untested.. I’ve heard so many good things about it.
I once saw Kim Kardashian apply it on her website , and like her or not, she usually aces her base

I have tried the MUFE HD foundation and HATED it, it looked terrible from the moment I applied it and still managed to look worse as the day wore on, it made my face so shiny and the make up became all patchy on my face, I tried every shade and couldn’t find a colour match, they are either too white or orange (I managed to purchase samples online). My mum thought I had slapped on a bucket load of sunscreen it looked that bad and she normally thinks everything looks “fine”
Graftobian HD foundation goes on fabulous and looks amazing but is definately not long lasting, after a few hours it starts to slide around on the face too. I’m still on the search for an SPF long lasting foundation too
