How to: Get a Polished Makeup Look. Quick Sticks!

With all eyes on NYFW last week, it was easy to let the red carpet lay around unnoticed. Until Milla Jovovich stormed it at the Resident Evil premiere in LA, that is.

Momentarily – and deservedly – focus shifted from catwalk to sidewalk as she posed for the paparazzi outside the theatre. And my, weren’t those flashbulbs justified, for Milla’s look was the stuff that crimson carpets are happy to be stomped over for; glamorous, groomed and totally glowy.

Upon donning my beauty bifocals and honing in for a closer look, it would be safe to say that this gorgeous, creamy-dreamy look was the work of one clever stick.

Or in this case, several.

Stick application products are fabulous for achieving a chic and simple look, in several hundred seconds only. But the results – and impression – lasts at least several gazillion more.

Here’s my guide to some really clever sticks:

Covergirl Smoky ShadowBlast Eyeshadow, $17.95, 1800 181 040, is a gun for giving that perfectly subtle smoulder, which is so much faster to fashion than a cat’s eye. Double-ended in coordinated shades, this product takes care of business directly under the brow and across the lid.

L’Oréal Paris Infallible Concealer, $25.95, 1300 659 359, has about as much staying power as Milla does. The pigment is designed to even skin tone and resist cracking under the pressure of tiredness, perspiration and excessive oiliness for 16 hours.

Clinique Blushwear Cream Stick, $43, from department stores, keeps creamy, dewy, shine-free cheeks in check. Lightweight and super-easy to blend, this is perfect for re-applications in the ladies room long into the evening.

Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick, $110, from select department stores, lives up to its name, delivering the dose of coverage you desire whilst hydrating skin, maintaining glow levels and becoming one with the complexion.

St Tropez Wash Off Instant Shimmer Stick, $34.95, 1800 358 999, is this looks full stop, sisters. Add a little to the cheekbones, cleavage and even along the shins to create a natural shimmer and shadow to accentuate each area.

Do you love quick-fix stick products for their creamy consistencies or no-brainer application benefits?

I like the covergirl eyeshadow, so easy to use, although the wear could be a bit better. And l LOVE the Clinique Blushwear – I got in a GWP the first time, and have since repurchased as I loved it so much. Definitely one of my favourites.

I actually loved both the infalliable concealer and the shadow. The concealer had great coverage and the shadow was super blendable and seemed to complement each other perfectly, taking out all the effort that normally requred

Oooh I’m intrigued by the Shimmer Stick and by the Clinique Blushwear cream stick! Sadly I haven’t tried any of those products though.

Haven’t tried any of these but I want them all! The Tom Ford foundation sounds superb, although I don’t know if I could part with $110 for it!
