How to: Wear Green & Gold Eye Makeup this Australia Day (Seriously!)

In theory, wearing both of our national colours on our lids might not seem like such a pretty idea. And in reality, it can often end up horribly wrong.
But some celebrities have tried the look to impressive success.
So, if you’re wanting to theme your eye makeup this Australia weekend, look no further for inspiration…
For a Cocktail Soirée, think Georgia May Jagger
Grab a golden dust and work it all over your lid, using a regular shadow brush. Next, take a soft blending brush to apply a khaki-coloured powder through the crease, working back and forth to soften the line and enhance definition, and whooshing it outwards slightly to create a subtle cat-eye effect. Now, take a liner brush to etch the gold shade around your inner corners, and towards the middle of the lower lashline. With a sponge-tipped applicator or smudger brush, colour the remainder of your lower lashline using the green powder once again. Finally: several coats of black mascara.

For a Daytime BBQ, think Diane Kruger
This one’s a cinch. Simply grab yourself a well-pigmented eyeshadow cream in a vivid green hue, and use your pinkie to lightly stipple it over your lid, working it up to a pretty, washed effect. Keep layering until you get the intensity you’d like. To set it off, take a gold pencil or dust and lightly speckle on beneath the lashline, before lashing on the black mascara.

For Evening Festivities, think Freida Pinto
This is basically a smoky eye – but a deep-green version. Nevertheless, begin with a black pencil, lining all around eyes and softening it out a little by blurring it with a fine brush. Now, grab your dark green shadow and lightly brush it over your lid, before concentrating on colouring through the socket, and outwards for a winged effect. Whisk along the lower lashline, too. Now, take another shadow brush to gild around the inner corners of eyes, as well along the lid if you want to lighten up your look. Finally? Loads of black mascara, of course.

For the Beach (to the Bar), think Bar Rafaeli
This is mostly about a punchy green liner, smooshed into the inner rim and lower lashline. But it actually looks best when complemented with a golden eye gloss or illuminating cream, dabbed over the lid and inner corners. Keep mascara (and the rest of makeup) minimal.
