Taylor Swift reminds me why lip stains are ridiculously awesome

Tue, 30 November 2010 7:53AM

Oh, Taylor Swift, I’m more than a little fond of you right now. You did, of course, blow me (and Zo and Yaz) away when you finally mixed things up a little and rocked up to the American Music Awards with a fringe and straight hair. You looked absolutely amazing. We’re not saying your usual combo of vintage-style ringlets and winged eye liner isn’t ace. No way. We just know other styles look awesome on you, too.

The reason we’re chatting today is not because you’ve signed another fragrance deal, or you’ve stepped out with sexy straight locks again, I actually wanted to say thank you. Yes, I’m thanking you. You see, I was scouring the net and stumbled across your Allure cover photo shoot video. I watched it, of course, and enjoyed your cute accent and your behind-the-scenes tour guide abilities.

I’m even pasting it here so everyone else can watch:

But the reason why I wanted to say thank you is because you reminded me in this very vid that lip stains are brilliant. You use them onstage instead of a gloss because it means your hair doesn’t get stuck in your lips, and I think that is a remarkable idea. You are a smart girl, Tayls. In fact, I wish I had thought of that last Saturday night when I was dancing up a storm on the d-floor of some club, only to find myself constantly eating a stringy mouthful of hair, all care of my darn lip gloss.

I love lip glosses, I really do. And I always will, in fact. But for the time being, I’m going to crank out my favourite lip stains and give them some airtime.  Yes, I’m not onstage performing like you (or on a d-floor all the time), but old mate Mr Spring – soon to be Mr Summer come tomorrow – has been known to get a little wild and windy, which means the possibility of having hair stuck to my lips is now at an all-time high.

I don’t know which ones you use, Tayls, but these are the ones I love, and I suggest you try them out, too. And until we chat again, stay cute, stay away from naughty boys and keep mixing things up in the beauty department, because we absolutely LOVE it when you do.

Legendary Lip Stain No. 1: The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain, $23.95

I love this one for its…lovely rich colour. It’s great on the lips and cheeks, and gives your skin a healthy glow. (Yep, even at 5.00pm when you’re feeling like arse.)

Legendary Lip Stain No. 2: Benefit Benetint, $55

I love this one for its…ability to stay-put. It’s also a handbag staple. I never leave home without it. (Or her sister.) The colour is very girlie like me, and I adore the little brush applicator.

Legendary Lip Stain No. 3: Stila Raspberry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain, $52

I love this one for its…wonderful colour. The vibrant pink hue is very cute, and this one even has a subtle shimmer to it. Very pretty indeed.

PS. Tayls, Yaz also loves this Revlon one, but I’ll let her tell you all about its goodness.

Lip-stained Primps,

Do you wear lip stains?

Have you used any of my favourites?

Did you enjoy Taylor’s little vid? She’s such a sweet treat.

I like the look of the Body Shop stain pen – it looks a lot more portable and easier to apply. I think I’ll have to try it – thanks! : )

Kit’s Lip and Cheek tint is really nice as well. I use it all the time and it gives me a really good colour and lasts for ages.

I love the body shop one! It applies really easily. I have always wanted to try benetint though. I think that is next on the list! x

I love the smell of the benetint. It is divine!!

I’m a longtime user of Benetint and its fabulous. It comes in the bottle above, but also in a refillable ‘pen’ sort of thing like the Body Shop one. Definitely recommend people check it out. A bit more expensive but worth it, and it lasts forevs.
I really want to try the Body Shop tint and then the Revlon one, better start writing my christmas wish list!

I live for my Benetint- it’s such a gorgeous colour and translates across all seasons. The applicator, however, is completely impractical and I’ve many a time left the lid undone and lost the majority of it’s contents. Definitely not klutz-proof!

Stila lip and cheek pen colours are beautiful, but I don’t like the taste and find them quite drying.

Don’t forget Posie tint! My saviour in summer

Maya S, I agree Posie tinit is my fave! Benetint is a little dark for my complexion. Love lip tint, less reapplying and no hair stauck to lips, win win! Do agree they can be drying mvr1.

I’ve always been curious about using a tint but I wonder- are they drying? I’m not sure why I assume that but for some reason I imagine them to dry out my lips which I something I’m not going for!

I can wait to try the Body Shop stain! i like how its nice and sleek and can probably fit in my wallet :)

I love benetint and benetint posie! Especially as posie makes such a wonderful “summer” version instead of it’s darker hued sister.

Favourite thing? Posie layered beneath highlighter or bronzer with a hint of shimmer. It’s like NARS orgasm but longer lasting on my usually shine-prone skin.

A tip from me to you! :)

The bodyshop lip stain looks like a great stocking filler for all the women in my family this xmas :)

Ooh I love lipstains, I use them all the time on wedding clients if I can get away with it, because like you said, no sticky gloss and less reapplying.
The Body Shop one looks good! Like Yaz, I’m a fan of the Revlon for personal use, it’s useless to use on clients unless I’m going to let them keep it!

haha as sson as I saw Taylor with straight hair I thought “she’s been reading PRIMPED!!!”
Not sure which style I like best – but props for changing it up a bit.
I’ve been thinking about a tint for a while after using Napoleons one a long time ago. Might look into one for summer :)

I love BeneTint and Posie Tint. Not sure if it counts but I’m also rather partial to Becca Beach Tint

BENEFIT Benetint is the sexiest flush you can get from a bottle! It is the original cheek and lip stain, and was created when an exotic dancer asked our BENEFIT co-founders to create a rose colour for her nipples, and voilà….. Benetint was born! Love Justin & team BENEFIT x

I use the Revlon ‘Just bitten’ stain (before it was in fancy shmancy new packaging)- it has lasted me A LONG TIME!

Gave me the best red lip I have ever had, the colour was so intense & natural, only downfall is my lips soak up that stain like a camel in the Sahara!

Maybe I’ll give these a try!

Ooh I adore lip stain too!
I used to use berry juice to stain my lips. Now I love the Revlon Just Bitten pens!

I love lip stains! I prefer using them for blush too :)

My ultimate all time favourite favourite is Posy Tint by Benefit -the pink is a perfect blush for my skin tone and it looks dewy and luminous on. Also works fantastically as a lip stain!

I love lipstains, they are the perfect combo of lippy and gloss but so much easier to apply than lippy and last longer than gloss. love the look of the stila ones and im still wanting benefits posie tint
