What to Buy This Week: ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick

Mon, 17 December 2012 11:11AM

It seemed fitting that our final What to Buy This Week blog for 2012 be on a product that is a) appropriate for us all to bust out for party season and b) that was on the affordable side. Only $16.95, to be precise. I don’t know about you, but after a weekend filled with Christmas shopping, my bank account is quickly depleting.

But in the spirit of the festive season and the uh, shopping season, I think we all deserve a little Christmas present to ourselves, wouldn’t you say?

Namely one of these brand new, just-hit-counters Model Co lipsticks, appropriately called Party Proof …

From left: Disco Fever – Matte, Spring Fling – Cream, Splendourful – Cream, Flirt – Cream, After Hours – Cream, Bimbo – Cream, Pink Sequin – Cream, Parisian Pink – Matte, Coachella Crush – Matte,
At The Disco – Cream, Stiletto – Matte

When it comes to lipstick, we all have our favourite formulations. I’m partial to a matte (for this month, anyway), but can totally appreciate a slightly creamier, yet still matte finish, which is why I love these so much.

Where’s the evidence, I hear you say …

  • They pack some serious pigment. So much so that after two hours and a morning coffee, the high-impact colour was still very much visible. In fact, the lipstick hadn’t budged. Best news is that the longevity factor ran true for the creamier variation, too.
  • Did I mention the 12-strong colour range? It’s superb. You’ve got all you need in both matte and cream formulations. For the hero shades, I love Coachella Crush in matte, the perfect orange-red, whereas for the cream, Bimbo (pictured) is a rich fuchsia that glides on like a dream. However for those that love a neutral, an honourable mention goes to Spring Fling, a soft and pretty rosy pink.
  • I’m forever rustling around in my makeup bag to find a mirror to apply my lipstick, but at last, there’s a lipstick with an in-built mirror. Almost the length of the lid, the mirror is the perfect size for quick touch-ups on the go. Genius.

For my fellow matte lovers out there, you know the dedication that goes in to keeping your pout in mint condition to achieve the perfect matte finish. However, those of you who are a weary of flaking or dry skin, remember that even though the lip finish is matte, you still need to keep your lips hydrated. Before applying your lipstick, lightly exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub or gently buff any dead skin away using an old toothbrush. Then, add a coat of lip balm around five to 10 minutes before you slick on your colour, that way your lips have enough time to absorb it. Blot away any excess with a tissue and then apply your lipstick. Voila!

Details: The ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick, $16.95, are available now online.

Tell me, Primpers, do these sound up your alley? Do you have a favourite shade from the lineup?

Do you like matte lipsticks?

What colour lipstick are you planning to wear for the festive season?

Using Honey as a lip mask is a great way to prep lips after a light scrub.
Follow up with a moisturiser, then balm or lipstick

I’m so glad there are no frosty colours in this range. I scanned the colours, only matt and cream- phew.
These are reasonably priced, now if I can only get my lips into good enough condition to wear a matt…. If not, I may have to stick with cream, but matt have that expensive look to it…

I’d wear either mac lipstick in ruby woo or morange or a clinique chubby stick.
