Best of Beauty 2012: Video: The Year in Beauty

Fri, 21 December 2012 12:49PM

Welcome to the final weekly wrap-up video for 2012. Where has the year gone?

It’s been a pretty big one here at HQ. Both Kat and I were the new kids on the block, quickly becoming entrenched in the beauty-loving world that is PRIMPED. We’ve loved every minute of bringing you all the latest in hair, makeup, skincare, and anti-ageing … and the list goes on.

In our final video of 2012, I’m reflecting back on the year that was:

If you can’t see the video, here’s all you need to know:

Beauty Highlight #1: While I’m wrapping up the year of beauty, my highlight from this week would have to have be the finale of Gossip Girl. I realise that I’m a tragic – and so five years ago – but I loved how the key beauty trends from over the years were brought out again in the last episode, from Blair’s headbands to Serena’s tousled strands. Sob.

Beauty Highlight #2: My number one interview this year was definitely be my chat with Bond Girl Bérénice Marlohe. She took the red carpet by storm with her incredible graphic eye makeup while promoting Skyfall, which was made all the more interesting by the fact that she was an artist before she became an actress. No wonder she’s so creative with her makeup!

Beauty Highlight #3: As for the product of the year, I really had to rack my brains – there have been far too many goodies to count. However I came to the conclusion that Chanel Coco Noir, $169, department stores, fit the bill. Interestingly the perfume was inspired by the black bottle first, and it’s both sexy and sultry, yet beautifully feminine, with notes of rose, jasmine, vanilla and patchouli. It’s delectable and if you haven’t yet finished your Christmas shopping, I’d add this one to the list.

Beauty Highlight #4: One of the many amazing beauty tips I have picked up over the year would be from St Tropez skin ambassador Nichola Joss, in regards to making mistakes while you are self-tanning. If you do have any streaks or have excess product build-up, turn your applicator mitt around to the black side and quickly buff it off. Piece of cake!

Beauty Highlight #5: Nail art! The recurring trend enabled me to indulge in my DIY side out once a week with our nail art  tutorials. We’ve featured everything from marble nails to glitter tips and most recently, miniature Christmas trees. Since I got engaged, it’s made me even more obsessed with my nails (if that was possible), and despite the fact that I’ve been wearing my festive nail art, I’m also really loving a glitter feature nail on my ring finger.

And with that final note, Primpers, we’re signing out for 2012. Prepare to be dazzled by the array of sparkling new beauty treats we have in store for you all in 2013!

Until then, we’d love to hear about what you loved most about on PRIMPED this year.

What was your beauty highlight?

Maybe it was your favourite blog or a new product you tried and loved?

Wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hayley x

2012 is the year I really stuck to a skin care routine and actually put some thought and effort (and $$ !) into the products I use.
So I’ve loved all the product advice and application tips.

Nail art really did explode in 2012 huh!! My beauty highlight was twigging my breakout problem skin should be treated with delicacy and transitioned to natural, gentle products for sensitive skin types and its made a HUGE difference !

There are so many beauty products that I discovered in 2012. Ended up buying a few products that suited me.

I just can’t get enough nail polish! Even though, I mostly wear the OPI Dutch Tulips colour. There are so many nail polish colours to choose from and I always find one that I like and must have. I love nail art and have successfully achieved simple patterns mostly using OPI nail lacquers.

I wear Chanel No.5 and Coco, so Coco Noir is a must try for me.

Nail art! I was never much of a nail polish girl but I have been impressed with the nails and the special effects that have become so fashionable!

Revlon’s definitely my favourite masstige of the year – they’ve produced great things like the lip butters, the recent kissable lip balm stains and their new Colorstay nail polish range. Thanks to them, I’m experimenting different lip colours and have thrown out my brown lippies which weren’t doing anything for me.

I am kind of over the nail art scene ( sorry, don’t hate me now everyone! ) Although I will confess that I like the idea of a bling nail for your ring finger, as I am also not that long engaged and just married.
