Video: The Week in Beauty: the Golden Globes, Pink Eyeshadow and More!
Fri, 18 January 2013 2:19PM
Hi there, Primpers, and welcome to my first ‘The Week in Beauty’ video for 2013.
Awards season is in full-swing, the biggest so far being last Monday’s Golden Globes, and we’ve got plenty more where that came from in the coming weeks. Along with a range of new products and trends that we’re loving right now, check out our beauty highlights from this week:
And for those of you who can’t see the video right now, here are the notes:
Beauty Highlight #1: From the runway to the red carpet, we’ve seen the emergence of pink eyeshadow in everything from neon to rich, rosy shades. This week, the Chanel 2012-2013 Cruise makeup collection hit counters, including – you guessed it – a pink eyeshadow, along with a fabulous bronze-gold illuminator. I came to the conclusion that while full washes of colour should be left on the catwalk, a soft wash of pink, however, applied with the darker shades closest to your lash line, gradually blending to lighter shades at the crease, can work well. You also must check out the beautiful detailing on the Mouche De Beaute, $90, 1300 CHANEL. Amazing.
Beauty Highlight #2: Over in our Younger You blog today, Yaz talked all about the foods that can make you look younger. Everything from turmeric, which gives yummy curries their vivid golden colour, helps to reduce swelling, ease any redness (particularly if you suffer from acne, or rosacea). Avocados, my personal favourite, which helps to slow the loss of collagen (on of the key aspects of youthful-looking skin) as well as reducing the appearance of age spots, scars and sun damage. And lastly, berries, of all shapes and sizes. Not only are they are chock-full of antioxidants, they also slow down the ageing process. Read all about it in Yaz’s blog.
Beauty Highlight #3: We weren’t short of beauty inspiration this week, with the Golden Globes taking place on Monday. When it came to best beauty looks, the results came in at a four-way tie. Best bold lip had to go to Jessica Alba’s pop of tangerine, while the best eye makeup went to Julianne Hough for her sprinkle of gold dust over her smoky eye. Best glow (and best braid!) went to Lucy Liu, who was positively radiant, putting her illuminator to good use in all the right places. And of course, best hair went to Kate Hudson, with that voluptuous blow-dry using David Babaii’s Rapid BlowOut Blow Dry Spray, $24.50, David Babaii.
Beauty Highlight #4: For a Throwback Thursday blog yesterday, we took a look back at some of the products that reminded us of being a teenager again. The number one, though, had to be the Montagne Jeunesse Masques, $3.95 each, Priceline. When I was younger my mum used to buy me these as a special treat, and along with the Dead Sea Anti-Stress Mud Masque, one of my other favourites is the Passion Peel Off masks. Reliving this particular part of my youth made me realise how important it is to remember to use a face mask each week. And it’s also a way for a little pampering before bed, too.
Beauty Highlight #5: Is a little sneak peek on a new mascara launching this Sunday from Lancôme, with the new Hypnôse Star Ultra-Glam Volume Mascara, $52, department stores. The beautiful campaign, starring model Daria Werbowy and Betty Boop (so cute), centres around the idea of vintage glamour meeting modern glamour. I won’t reveal too much about it as we’ll be providing a full review soon, but the flat side of the brush is designed to build volume and get right to the root of the small lashes at the base, while the round side curves and defines your lashes. Stay tuned for more info next week!
Tell me, Primpers, what was your beauty highlight this week on PRIMPED?
Did you have a favourite celebrity beauty look?
What about the foods Yaz spoke about – do you include any in your diet?
